Why Wellness Coaching Isn't Just Positive Thinking: The Trauma Work That Saved My Life
The Moment Everything Changed
February 2023. I woke up on a stretcher being rushed out of my apartment after passing out at my desk.
What I thought was a simple miscarriage turned out to be a ruptured ectopic pregnancy that nearly killed me. They took one of my fallopian tubes that day. But honestly? The physical loss wasn't even the hardest part.
The mental aftermath was absolute hell.
My body already felt like it was working against me—precancerous diagnosis, weight loss surgery, fertility struggles. And now this. My mind became convinced that sex equaled pregnancy, which equaled death. Panic attacks became so severe that I'd lock myself in dark closets just to breathe. The grief was so heavy I couldn't see a future where I'd ever hold my own baby.
But here's what changed everything: I found a wellness practitioner who specialized in trauma.
What Real Trauma-Informed Wellness Work Looks Like
Let me be crystal clear about something: The wellness practitioner who saved my life didn't use positive affirmations or tell me to "just think positive."
She used EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). She taught me tapping techniques. We did deep therapeutic work that actually addressed the trauma my body and mind were holding onto.
This wasn't surface-level wellness work. This was:
Rewiring trauma responses embedded in my nervous system
Rebuilding trust with my own body when I thought it was impossible
Creating new neural pathways that didn't associate pregnancy with death
Processing grief that felt too heavy to carry alone
Developing tools to regulate when panic threatened to overwhelm me
Session by session, I unpacked the fear my body was holding onto. I rewired the stories my mind was telling me. I rebuilt trust with myself and my ability to carry life.
The Transformation That Proves Why Your Work Matters
That trauma-informed wellness work didn't just help me survive another miscarriage. It didn't just give me coping mechanisms or make me "feel a bit better."
It literally saved my life. My mental health. My marriage. My ability to hope again.
Here's what that deep therapeutic work gave me:
✨ Tools to unpack terror - Not just manage it, but actually process and release the fear my body was storing
✨ Ability to rewrite destructive narratives - The stories my mind was telling me about my broken body and doomed future
✨ Strength to face future loss - When I experienced another miscarriage, I had the resilience and tools to process it without completely falling apart
✨ Confidence to try again - Despite every fear screaming at me, I found the courage to attempt pregnancy again
✨ Hope when darkness felt permanent - The ability to see a future I wanted when I couldn't imagine one before
Eventually, I carried my son Frank to term. I held him in my arms. I became the mother I thought would never be possible.
What Wellness Coaching Actually Does (And Why It's Not What Most People Think)
This is why I'm so passionate about the work wellness and mindset coaches do.
You're not just helping people "think more positively" or "manage stress better" or practice gratitude journaling.
You're literally changing the trajectory of people's lives.
You're helping them rebuild after trauma. You're giving them tools to rewrite the stories their bodies and minds are holding onto. You're creating space for healing that medical interventions alone can't provide.
That work is everything.
Wellness coaching and trauma-informed practices can:
Rewire nervous system responses to triggers
Process grief and loss that feels unbearable
Heal relationship trauma affecting current connections
Address somatic symptoms of unprocessed experiences
Create new neural pathways for healthier patterns
Build resilience for facing future challenges
Restore hope when it feels impossible
This isn't woo-woo nonsense. This is neuroscience. This is how our brains and bodies actually process and heal from trauma.
The Problem Keeping You From Your Most Important Work
Here's what breaks my heart: The coaches doing this crucial, life-changing work are drowning in operational chaos.
You're spending countless hours weekly on:
→ Content creation overwhelm
→ Email marketing chaos
→ Client onboarding nightmares
→ System integration hell
→ Social media management stress
→ Administrative tasks that steal your energy
Meanwhile, the transformational work—the deep coaching sessions, the breakthrough moments, the life-changing conversations—gets squeezed into whatever time is left.
That's backwards.
Your clients need you focused on transformation, not trapped in Canva and Calendly.
Picture this instead: Your business runs smoothly in the background while you pour your energy into the work that actually changes lives. Your content is created and scheduled. Your emails are written and automated. Your client onboarding is seamless and professional.
You're spending your time in deep coaching sessions, developing transformational programs, and showing up fully present for the people whose lives you're changing.
The Future You Deserve
The coaches changing lives shouldn't be drowning in admin hell. Period.
Your work matters too much to waste on:
Creating endless social media graphics
Writing the same onboarding emails repeatedly
Fighting with tech platforms that don't talk to each other
Manually tracking every lead and follow-up
Spending evenings and weekends catching up on tasks
You became a wellness coach to transform lives, not to become a social media manager, graphic designer, email marketer, and tech support specialist.
What if you could reclaim 15-25+ hours every single week? What if your business operations ran smoothly while you focused purely on the deep work that saves lives—just like my practitioner did for me?
That's exactly why I do what I do.
